Prayer for Ukraine

Pope Francis asked all to join him in prayer for Ukraine on March 25, 2022. Here is  a wonderful resource with the prayer and a coloring page you can use to continue to pray for Ukraine at home.

Basics of Lent and Easter

Why do we call it "Ash" Wednesday? What is the origin of Lent? Why 40 days? WHICH 40 days do you count? All these questions and more are answered in this Q & A with Fr. Pat McCloskey OFM of St. Anthony Messenger magazine.
Ask a Franciscan About... Lent and Easter
Lent and the Cross

When we think of the season of Lent, do we think of it as an old friend? Do we consider the cross to be a sign of God's abundant love for us? Click below for a beautiful and thought-provoking reflection on Lent as a season to celebrate Jesus' friendship with us.
Welcome, Lent
Help Children Prepare for Lent

Lent can be described in many ways... it is a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, a period of preparation for baptism or reception into the Church, a time to prepare for the celebration of Easter, etc. How do we explain Lent to children and help them enter into the spirit of the season? Explore the resources below for ideas!

Make Pretzels this Lent!

The popular snack was actually invented as a food that satisfied the fasting and abstinence laws of Lent. The article linked below explains the origins of the pretzel, its connections to Lent and Christian faith, and includes a recipe. While the recipe says it is for a church group to make, it is the same recipe that is often shared for home use. Enjoy!
